This wall plaque, model number
62, was made in Purmerend by Wed. N.S.A. Branjes & Co. Founded
in 1895 by the widow (Wed) of Nicolaas Brantjes Jnr. The logo
of Brantjes is a clog (klomp) with the initials 'NB' under. Date
is 1898 - date code 'C'. Painted by Bernardus Johannes Boeziek,
who in 1904, joined Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland. The painted
seascape is from an original by the Dutch master painter Hendrik
Willem Mesdag, 1831 - 1915. Inset shows 'naar H.W. Mesdag' which
basically means 'attributed to or by or after' H.W. Mesdag. These
wall plaques are very rarely seen for sale. This was bought by
us from an antique shop in Warwick here in the UK.
