Painter and designer Leen J. Muller (1879-1969) played a crucial role for Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland from his arrival in 1898 until his departure in 1936. First as a painter but from 1908 also as a designer of many decors and models.

In 1924 he was appointed head of the Department of Applied Arts and thus Leen Muller can be seen as the artistic vision of the 'Zuid-Holland' during the first decades of the last century.
