Astronomy

 

 Some people like it in the day but astronomers prefer the night

Stuart (retired NHS Electrical Engineer) is the Honorary Life President of Sheffield Astronomical Society here in the UK and Kim (retired IT Consultant) is also a past President and Curator of Instruments.

Kim is a highly accomplished artist, with a degree course of Fine Art B.A. (Hons). Kim has designed and painted artwork for many people including astronomical related shop signs, astronomical society logos and is a superb painter of astronomical art having won many awards. A painting of Halley's Comet by Kim for the Sheffield Astronomical Society 50th Anniversary hangs in the Mayor's room in Sheffield City Hall. The original logo of Sheffield Astronomical Society was designed by Kim who also designed the logo for the Federation of Astronomical Societies - FAS. Kim also designed the logo and painted the sign for astronomer Rosemary Naylor's (now retired) Earth & Sky shop in Hebden Bridge.


In remembrance of Sir Patrick Moore who died in December 2012.

Stuart is the Honorary Life President and Kim is a past President.

Kim also designed the original logo for the Federation of Astronomical Societies.

 

STARDOME PLANETARIUM

Our dear friend Andrew Green, who we have known since he was a small boy, is the owner of the UK's premier mobile planetarium. Stardome is a 6-metre inflatable planetarium, one of the largest in the UK.

The Stardome features superior technology including a large 6-metre dome, seating in chairs for 30+ people - a professional auditorium with no sitting on the floor, zip tent-style entrance - no tunnel to crawl down, large screen data projection and Hi-tech Holmestronic star projector for full dome projection.

STAR TALKS

 
Our friend Star Talks presenter Dennis Ashton, is one of the most experienced and enthusiastic astronomy and space science presenters in the UK. We can vouch for that having known him for a very long time!

Dennis has travelled the world in his love of astronomy. Here you can see him posing in front of the telescopes on Mauna Kea, Hawaii, some 13,800 feet above sea level.

Astronomical societies, Probus, Rotary, schools & colleges, etc. - see his website for details of his talks and presentations, including planetarium shows. You won't be disappointed!
