High glaze vase with inset animal figurine - Loets de Vries - 1954 to 1959

Vase 22.0 cm H. Stag 6.5 cm H.

Made in Gouda by Leendert (Loets) de Vries. He started this one man company in Gouda in 1954 to 1959. Loets made everything himself including the casting, models and experimental glazes. These Loets de Vries items are very rarely seen for sale. This one was bought by us from here in the UK - which is most unusual indeed! Sadly Loets de Vries was killed in a road accident in Eastern Germany in 1959. With grateful thanks to our friend Johan Karelse for the information.
